Tiwag speaks about a ‘milestone’ in the power plant plans in the Kaunertal (Tyrol) with the controversial memory in the Platzertal, because the authority considers the RRP documents completely. The plans are now public and the (critical) citizens are a promise …
A step has been taken, having to follow much more from Tiwag-We are talking about the pumped storage center, the heart of the expansion of 1.6 billion euros in the Kaunertal. In particular, the Speichersee in the Platzertal offers stubborn criticism.
50 experts in 45 specialized areas
“In recent months, 50 experts from the authority have investigated the submission documents for completeness in 45 specialized areas,” said TIWAG director Alexander Speckle on a short-term mediaatum.
He emphasized that people were open to “questions, worries and fears”. It will also need good arguments with a view to the massive headwind. So -called Consultation on the Environmental Effect Assessment (RRP) are planned for the population in the five location communities of Kaunertal, Pounds, Prutz, Tösen and Fendels. As is known, there was already a referendum on the project in Pfunds (almost 85 percent “no”).
Different phases to the hearing
The next step in the procedure is the public edition of the 9000 page documents before 12 September. The RRP report from the authority is then again publicly interpreted. The last act is the oral hearing, then the decision is made.
An average RRP procedure can take almost two years. “The political will to promote renewable projects is there,” Speckle hopes for a small headwind.
TIWAG Project Manager promises “Open Ear”
The contact person for the big project is the new project manager Andreas Dengg. “I have an open ear, I want to discuss openly and based on facts,” promised the civil engineer studied.
Tiwag: ideal addition to sun and wind
Speckle emphasizes the enormous importance of pumped storage plants. In the case of surpluses in the power network, for example in a lot of sun or wind, this energy is pumped into a higher storage pool with this energy and stored there.
In the opposite case, the water from the memory pool is generated. “This means that fluctuations between electricity generation and electricity requirements can be compensated within a few seconds. This will contribute to safe food and stable networks in the future,” Speckle argues.
WWF indicates dangers
The WWF immediately criticized the plans a few hours later as “dangerous and of course destructive”. Possible dangers related to the climate crisis, such as pergers due to the thawing of permafrost floors in the Alps, are still unclear and therefore represented a huge risk risk. Moreover, a Tyrolean Natural Jewel would be destroyed forever by the Platzertal memory …
