Ukraine is confronted with reorganization of the government. President Wolodyymyr Senskyj gave the deputy head of the Julia Swryrydenko government on Monday for the management of government transactions.
The appointment should serve to better develop the economic potential of Ukraine. Senskyj announced that he had also discussed measures with Swrydenko about the help for citizens in the country and about the multiplication of the production of armament.
Economic and trade expert takes the lead
Swrydenko is considered an economic and trade expert. The politician, born in the Tschernihiw region in 1985 north of Kiev, initially worked in local politics and in the private sector before being brought into the government in 2019 after the election victory of Senskyj Inititative as vice-minister of Economic Affairs. Later she rose to the deputy head of the presidential administration and since 2021 to the Minister of Economy and Vice President. Since the start of the war, she has ensured the recruitment of international aid and loans.
The formation of the government is not completely unexpected. The previous head of the Denys Schmyhal government had a relatively low influence. The Member of Parliament of the small Pro-European party Holos, Jaroslaw Schelesnjak, had predicted the fall of Schmyhals in mid-June. His cabinet “loses more and more support,” he said at the time.
Review from Washington?
Moreover, there was recently more and more speculation about another important staff: Minister of Defense Rustem Umjerow was traded as a possible ambassador in Washington. Senskyj wants to meet US President Donald Trump by replacing the previous ambassador Oksana Markarowa, according to Media reports. The Republicans therefore accuse Markarowa from too great a political proximity to the American Democrats. A good relationship with Washington is important for Kiev to keep hoping for arms deliveries and other support from the US.
