The UAE team of double Tour de France winner Tadej Pogacar announced on Friday the renewal until 2024 of Rafal Majka and Brandon McNulty, key teammates for the Slovenian, as well as commenting on the contract extensions of Mikkel Bjerg and Diego Ulissi.
The help of the Polish Majka and the American McNulty was especially important for Pogacar in the high mountains. On stage 17 of the Tour it was after an extraordinary acceleration by McNulty, who beat all the crew chiefs and teammates of Jonas Vingegaardwhich Pogacar was able to win at the top of Col de Peyragudes.
Majka, 32, also took “Pogi” to other high mountain stages, before retiring with a thigh injury on the first day of the Pyrenean triptych.
The extension of McNulty (24) and the Danish Mikkel Bjerg (23) is part “of a long-term strategy to develop young talents”, explained the Emirati formation in its press release.
The announcement of this quadruple extension follows another round of renewal on August 4: the Italian Matteo Trentin, the Norwegian Vegard Stake Laengen and the Portuguese Ivo and Rui Oliveira. They signed until 2023.
