Olympique Lyon opened Ligue 1 with a long-suffering 2-1 victory over newly-promoted Ajaccio, who stood up to Peter Bosz’s side in a clash marked by the dismissals of Anthony Lopes and Romain Hamouma that reduced the both teams with less incidents for locals.
Olympique Lyon has passed its first litmus test. The debut in a championship, and more so against a team that played in a lower category last season, is always dangerous. The lack of shooting could be in favor of the most humble and Bosz’s men, in fifteen minutes, saw three points in danger.
With the signings of Alexandre Lacazette, Corentin Tolisso, who has returned to the club where they trained, and Nicolás Tagliafico, Olympique Lyon will want to show their credentials as a candidate to usurp Paris Saint-Germain’s hegemony in Ligue 1 which has been broken by just two years ago for Lille. Of the three, only Tolisso remained on the bench. Bosz chose the midfield with Houssem Aouar, Johann Lepenant and Lucas Paqueta.
Lopes, ejected and Aouar, sacrificed
And, almost at the first change, almost half an hour later, he had to change everything and sacrifice someone to bring his substitute goalkeeper on the pitch to replace Anthony Lopes, sent off after taking a penalty which Thomas Mangani converted served Ajaccio. Close the gap. The sacrifice was Aouar, wanted by Betis and left his place to substitute goalkeeper Remy Riou.
Until that moment, Lyon was the owner and master of the match. Everyone was happy at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais with goals from Tete, who opened the scoring after twelve minutes with a shot near the post that Benjamin Leroy couldn’t save. And, not long after, Lacazette opened his locker from the penalty spot. 2-0, in less than half an hour, heralded a very quiet encounter.
The forces are balanced
However, the dismissal of Lopes changed everything and, in the last fifteen minutes of the first action, Ajaccio fought for a draw. However, Hamouma saw his second yellow card and the rush was over. Although Ajaccio held out for a draw, Lyon brought out their hierarchy and, without much fanfare, earned their first three points of the course.
