1,500 cyclists brave the heat at the Pedro Delgado March in Segovia

About 1,500 cyclists took part in the twenty-seventh edition of the Pedro Delgado International Cycle Tourwhich started at eight in the morning at the foot of the Aqueduct of Segoviaand finished a few hours later next to the pavilion with the name of the Segovian cyclist.

On a day marked by intense heat, the test participants, who this time paid tribute to Bejarano Roberto HerasThey were in no hurry.

The proof of this is the runner from the Cartucho.es team, Edgar Esteban Clementeand the former professional cyclist Haimar Zubeldia They crossed the finish line in first position after completing the 164-kilometer route in just four hours and fifteen minutes, at an average speed of over 35 kilometers per hour.

They are in the female category Mercedes Carmona and Beatriz Martin who crossed the finish line together, completing the route before the rest of the platoon, with a time of five hours and thirteen minutes.

Although it is true that the two-year break due to the pandemic and the strong heat expected for Sunday morning reduced some participation from March, the 1,500 cyclists in a compact platoon set a good dominant atmosphere from the start and up to the town of La Granja de San Ildefonso.

There, each runner is free to find their rhythm and complete the 164 kilometers of the gran fondo route in the best way, or the 119 kilometers of the alternative route, which this year was chosen by more than a third of the runners.

Pedro Delgado, accompanied by Roberto Heras, chose the gran fondo route, reaching the finish line with a time of over five hours.

Hundreds of March participants, along with cycling fans, awaited them upon arrival to perform the award ceremony and the traditional meal of brotherhood that ended the day.
