Victor Campenaerts won the Tour of Leuven

the Belgian Victor Campenaerts, of the Lotto Soudal team, achieved its first victory of 2022 this Sunday by winning the 56th edition of Tour of Leuven-Memorial Jef Scherens, contested for nearly 200 kilometers starting and finishing in that Belgian city.

Campenaerts, 30, won the sprint ahead of his breakaway partner, the Czech Zdenek Stybar (Quick Step-Aplha Vinyl). Both were 20 seconds ahead of the first platoon, led by the Norwegian Alexander Kristoff (Intermarche-Want-Gobert).

Campenaerts and Štybar jumped from the group 40 kilometers from the finish line, where they arrived exceptionally, despite the effort to neutralize them at the head of the peloton, to play for victory in one head.

This Sunday marked the ninth professional victory for Campenaerts and the first this year. The last one was achieved on May 23, 2021 in the fifteenth stage of the Giro d’Italia.

The Belgian succeeded the Italian in the race winners Nicolo Bonofaziowhich in 2021 re-released the success achieved in 2019.

The French Julian Alaphilippe (Quickstep)the great test figure, finishing in 54th place 1:56 minutes behind the winner.
