Aleix rode to Silverstone with a broken right heel

Date:

Aleix Espargaró, classified second in the MotoGP World Championship, ran in the Silverstone race with a fracture in the heel of his right foot as diagnosed this Monday in a complete diagnostic examination carried out at the Hospital Universitari Dexeus in Barcelona.

The Catalan driver was the victim of a terrifying high-side during Saturday’s FP4 at the British Grand Prix where he was thrown at nearly 180 km/h and hit the dorsal protection of his suit hard, damaging both ankles. In principle, on the diagnostic devices of the Mobile Clinic, a strong bruise was observed at the calcaneal level on his right heel, but the MRI on Monday showed that he had a fracture.

Three quarters of an hour later he entered Q2 where he achieved an excellent sixth position for the grid on Sunday and in the race he survived the pain and discomfort of his Aprilia position and minimized the damage to ninth place losing just one point with World Championship leader Fabio Quartararo and even fighting for eighth place in the final step up to 13th place.

According to Aprilia Racing, the injury does not require surgical treatment, and Aleix has been prescribed seven days of complete rest, during which he will have to use crutches in order not to put pressure on the injured leg. The goal is to get to the next race weekend (August 19-21, Austria) in the best physical condition.
