Former Real Madrid winger Royston Drenthe continues to stumble for Spanish football. The Dutch footballer, now 35 years old, returned to Madrid after a failed stint with Real Murcia. In the capital, Drenthe will play in Madrid Racein the highest amateur division in the country.
After signing with Kozak Boys in the summer of 2019, he moved to Racing de Murcia in January 2021. That club in turn loaned Drenthe to city rivals Real Murcia, where former Murcia player was promoted Feyenoord in the RFEF First Division. Drenthe only saw action for 89 minutes spread over nine games. This summer he returned to Racing de Murcia, although it was short-lived.
At Racing de Madrid, Drenthe will form an attacking pair with Manucho. In his presentation, the 39-year-old Angolan was introduced as “Christian Ronaldo’s former teammate at Manchester United”, where he scored a goal in three games. Racing Madrid is, along with former bosses Racing Murcia and Racing Mérida, the third Spanish club in the Racing City Group.
