Yeray overcame a testicular tumor a few years ago. The Athletic centre-back is always ready to cooperate with the goal. I prefer to do it, yes, from anonymity.
How do you feel when cases of testicular tumors like Haller’s are made public at the level of world football? Does this remind you of your case?
There have been two cases in Germany and recently another one with a boy from Las Palmas, who I also sent a message to and he replied. It’s every day. Millions of people suffer from this disease. It clearly reminds me of mine. In the end, a footballer came out, but when other people write to me to tell me that they have this disease, he also reminds me of it. We are not aliens. We also have illnesses, we go through hard times and although people may not believe it, we are completely normal people.
Do many ask you for advice or do you just give them your testimony?
That is something that I take more privately, I don’t like things to come out. With Haller the club asks me, it gives him visibility and it’s great; but I like to do things in private.
