Portuguese driver Antonio Félix da Costa will drive for Porsche from the 2023 season of the Formula One World Championship, the German automaker said on Monday.
Da Costa, 30, will drive in 2022 for Franco-Chinese team DS-Techeetah with Frenchman Jean-Eric Vergne. He is one of the veterans of the championship, where he has competed since its creation in the 2014-15 campaign. He was crowned champion in 2020, when the discipline was not yet a world championship, and won a total of 7 ePrix and added 16 podium finishes. It also won the Le Mans 24 Hours in the LMP2 class this year.

“It’s like a dream come true. I really want to continue and win races for this team. I’ve been beaten by a Porsche many times in my career, and not only in Formula E, so I know that Porsche is doing everything to win.” “It’s in the brand’s DNA. I share the same ambition and look forward to joining the team and working together to ensure a successful start to the Gen3 era.” He will replace German pilot André Lotterer and will be partnered by another German, Pascal Wehrlein.
“I am delighted that António has joined. He has incredible ability as a racing driver and has proven many times that he is a winner, not only in Formula E,” said Thomas Laudenbach, Vice President of Porsche Motorsport. “We have high regard for him as a driver and his own merits as a person. He is a positive person who fits us and the Porsche Motorsport family. I am sure that together we will fight for victories and titles in the coming year.”
New electric cars, lighter and more powerful, known as Gen3, will be put into circulation from next season.
The 2022 world championship, which concluded on Sunday, saw Belgian Stoffel Vandoorne win the drivers’ title and Mercedes the constructors’ title. However, the star brand will leave the competition and sold his team to McLaren, another of the stars of Formula 1 who also decided to enter Formula E.
