Pol Lirola: “I had a thorn in my side playing in the First Division”

The new part of Elche, Pol Lirolasaid on Tuesday, in his official presentation, that he had a thorn in his side to play in the Spanish First Division after spending the last seven years in Italy (Sassuolo and Fiorentina) and France (O. Marseille). Lirola trained in the lower Spanish categories before joining the subsidiary of Juventus in 2016.

The player made sure he could adapt different tactical systems and insisted that his signing for Elche was not a step back but an opportunity to discover Spanish football.

Lirola downplayed the importance of the team’s debut against Betis (3-0) by pointing out that the goals came from Elche’s mistakes and he remembers that this is just the beginning and that they have a team that is better than what they did in Seville”.

The winger admitted that playing in the First Division was like “a dream” for him and said he is ready to make his debut when the coach considers it after having a “difficult” pre-season in Marseille. “I am eager to start to show that it was a good idea to bring me here”, concluded the new Elche player.
