Alexiawho continues to make strides in his recovery after tearing the cruciate ligament in his left knee, was selected by UEFA’s technical study group based on his performance last season at both club and national team level and will compete for the award next to English Beth MeadArsenal and the german Lena Oberdorf (Wolfsburg).
The award winner of UEFA Women’s Player of the Year will be announced at the 2022/23 UEFA Champions League group stage draw ceremony, which will take place on Thursday 25 August at the Haliç Congress Center in Istanbul.
At the same event, UEFA will also honor the female coach who has had the biggest impact in the 2021/22 season with UEFA Coach of the Year award in women’s soccer. The Barça coach was not among the nominees Jonathan Giraldez and the three applicants are the French Sonia Bompastor (Olympique de Lyon)the German Martina Voss-Tecklenburg (Germany) and the dutch Sarina Wiegman (England).
