The DGT warns about the risks of short journeys

Date:

This kind of travel, to nearby destinations along well-known routes, often along conventional roads, makes us lower our vigilance and accidents happen.

Most traffic accidents occur during short journeys as drivers are not so aware of the risk of being behind the wheel, they tend to drive on urban or secondary roads that they know well and therefore tend to
necessary safety measures. Normally these also include trips to or from work, shopping and, for example, taking the children to school.

So, so that this doesn’t presume
a fright or a serious accidentthe General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) offers us a series of guidelines that we must follow:

-Even if you are going to travel a few kilometers, consult the
circulation statusespecially if you are going to more touristy areas and destinations, if you are going to travel through the most conflicted parts, if you are going out during rush hour on important days.

Avoid distractionthe excesses of relaxation and confidence behind the wheel, even if the journey is short and familiar.

-If you travel on conventional roads, on all roads,
speed limit is 90 km/h for cars and motorcycles. Remember that it is only allowed to exceed 20 km/h for overtaking and under certain conditions.

-Respect the
safety distance always.

-Even if it is a short trip, all passengers must carry well
fastened seat belt and children must use the corresponding child seat.

-Stay alert and practice
preventive driving: Unforeseen events can occur at any time.

Adjust speed adapt to the conditions at all times, especially if you encounter delays and heavy traffic, drive at night or in the rain…

-The driver’s safety depends on the driver’s psychophysical state.
Avoid the use of alcoholic beverages and other drugs: they increase the risk and increase the chance of an accident. If you are taking any medication, talk to your doctor about possible negative effects on driving.
