google announced this Thursday that it will shut down its cloud video game service on January 18 stadiumsafter it failed to get the number of users and the “expected traction” the company expected.
In a blog post of the company, the company’s director of service and vice president, Phil Harrison, explained that in mid-January, Google will return the money invested in the company’s games and controls through the Stadia store.
Launched in closed beta in December 2018, the service allows you to play video games without a ‘hardware’, such as a console, to support it, as the service is offered in the cloud, an approach that other companies such as Microsoft through his Game Pass.
The company has emphasized in its statement that the technology developed for the service will be reused in areas such as augmented reality, YouTube or Google Play.
The service had been declining in users and dedicated projects for months, and in August, Google had to deny its shutdown.
