Medusa radars, how they work and where they will pay

Date:

In Spain, its use is not on the table for the time being, although fines for excessive noise from motorcycles and passenger cars can reach up to 600 euros

Those drivers with a penchant for ‘thunder’ may soon have a new enemy. France has already installed new radars, called Medusa, in 14 of its French cities to identify cars and motorcycles that exceed the legal decibel threshold when modifying their exhausts. In particular, these radars have a structure that:
five microphones that detect the sound levelor whatever the same allows you to scan sounds up to ten times per second.

In addition, the Medusa radar includes a 360º camera to capture the culprit. If the system proves efficient, these radars are expected to be installed in the rest of France in early 2023. And after the tests, all those vehicles that exceed 90 decibels are expected to be punished with
a fine of 135 euros.

And in the case of Spain? According to Faconauto, some municipalities are currently studying French road data for future installation in Spain. There is even a sound level meter installed on the C-31 in Barcelona. Likewise, a noise test will be required in all EU countries to obtain a favorable ITV from 2024.

According to the French Ministry of the Interior, an estimated 10,000 people can wake up from a single motorcycle with a modified exhaust that exceeds the acoustic limits set at night. That is why it is a measure that stems from the health of the citizen. “Especially at night, the stress caused by the noise level can cause serious pathologies, with problems such as deafness, cardiovascular diseases, anxiety disorders, diabetes and obesity,” says the Paris Deputy Mayor in charge of the ecological transition,
Dan Lert.
