Elon Musk, the founder and CEO of Tesla, has indirectly bought a 9.2% stake in the technology company Twitter. The billionaire businessman has become the company’s largest shareholder, driving a 26% rise in Twitter shares.
The businessman, who is the second richest man in America according to Forbes, has acquired a package of 73.5 million shares in the purchased company. At the price at which the shares closed last Friday, Musk’s participation thus corresponds to 2,624 million euros.
A week and a half ago, Musk himself asked his followers on Twitter whether they believe that this social network adheres “rigorously” to the principle that freedom of expression is essential for democracy. Two days after the results of the survey, where the majority of his followers voted negative, the businessman wondered whether a new social network that fulfilled this principle was “necessary”.
