The auto industry is calling for government policies to maintain employment in the industry

The associations of the automotive sector, Anfac, the Spanish association of car and truck manufacturers, together with Sernauto, the Spanish association of car suppliers and the trade unions CCOO and UGT, have drawn up a manifesto to promote the industry. A sector which, as stated in this document, represents 10% of the national GDP, is responsible for 15% of all tax collection and
makes up 9% of employment in the entire chain of value.

The Manifesto, which consists of 17 measures, demands from the government a unique mobility model for Spain, focused on the person and at the same time meeting the objectives of decarbonisation while preserving the
strategic position of the automotive industry. Second, it proposes an industrial policy that strengthens tax deductions for R+D+i and investments related to electric, sustainable or connected mobility.

Industry and social actors are also proposing measures to maintain employment in the sector. Among them, the creation of a specific plan for requalification and promotion of training in new technologies, digitization and production of sustainable means of transport.
Also the promotion of employment for womenthe increase in investments in the public model of regulated training (Double, professional and university training) and the strengthening of the continuous training system for employees.

Fourth, the organizations insist on the need to promote the charging infrastructure for electrified vehicles in Spain, as well as other measures that accelerate the transition to more sustainable mobility. Likewise, they call for continued progress in the competitiveness of Spain’s logistics, the push for circular economy policies or the commitment to energy measures resulting in more competitive industrial costs, among other measures.

Finally, Anfac, Sernauto, CCOO and UGT are urging the government to reactivate the already established Automotive Roundtable through a recurring meeting calendar and a practical, effective work plan that translates into concrete measures. Similarly, they ask that the body set up to monitor and coordinate the deployment of charging infrastructure (GTIRVE) speed up its work to come up with a set of proposals before the end of the year.

We represent a strategic industry for the country that we must promote together and it is therefore important that the administration is sensitive and prompt in applying the necessary measures so that the automotive sector remains a driver of the economy and society. ».
