Vehicle production recovers and grows 2.8% through October

For the first time so far in 2022, exports have increased slightly

Vehicle production in Spain was up 2.8% through October as more microchips became available. Electrified vehicles already represent 11.7% of
the total production quota, with 211,483 units manufactured. The good news coincides with another major milestone for the automotive sector, as exports recorded a slight increase of 1.1% for the first time so far in 2022.

They have been produced in total
1.8 million units in the first ten months of the year, which represents an increase of 2.8% compared to the same period in 2021.

According to the Spanish Association of Automobile and Truck Manufacturers (Anfac), car production has experience
a slight improvement in recent months due to the greater availability of microchips in the market and the flexibility of factories.

For example, between January and October 2022, vehicle production grew by 2.8% compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 1,806,642 units. Although it still represents a decrease of 24.6% compared to the same period in 2019,
pre-pandemic. Regarding the month of October, 204,987 units have been produced, which is 24.2% more than the same month of 2021.

By vehicle type, production of passenger cars and SUVs registered 164,283 units in October, 26.7% more than in the same month of 2021. Similarly, production of
commercial and industrial vehicles registers an increase of 15.2% compared to October 2021 and a total of 40,704 units.

Specifically, in the month of October, 171,769 vehicles left our country, representing a remarkable increase in the export rate of 20.4% compared to 2021, and the largest increase recorded so far this year. In October, 83.8% of vehicles manufactured in Spain were exported.

With all this, exports continue to be equally affected by the microchip crisis and by the economic uncertainty that is having a substantial impact on the recipient countries of Spanish vehicles in Europe. The main European markets represent 70.5% of exports after a year-on-year increase of 32.1%. The weight of exports to the EU increased by 6.3 percentage points.

In October, key European markets including
Germany, France, Italy, United Kingdom and Turkey, showing significant growth in terms of exports. Germany in particular stands out with an increase of 59.1%; Italy registers a growth of 50.9%. In France, the second export destination, or the United Kingdom, the third, this growth was more moderate in October at 5.8% and 6.7% respectively. Within the rest of the top 10, overall strong growth is observed, with variations of more than 40% in half of the cases.

In October, the production of
zero- and low-emission vehicles (electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids, conventional hybrids, natural gas and LPG) experienced an increase of 46.1% compared to the same month of 2021, to 30,625 units.24,841 electrified units, representing an increase of 58.3% compared to the same month of the previous year.

In the past month, this type of vehicle represented 14.9% of the total vehicle production share in Spain
the manufacture of electrified (pure electric and plug-in hybrids) the one with the highest volume, with 12.1% of total production. Specifically, 24,841 electrified units were produced in October, an increase of 58.3% compared to the same month of the previous year.

Production of electrified vehicles
continues its path of annual growth, with 211,483 units through October, 29.6% more than the previous year. In the first ten months of the year, it reached 11.7% of total production, which is 2.4 percentage points more than in the same period in 2021. By vehicle type, there are a total of 114,132 plug-in hybrids so far this year, with an increase in production of 12%. For their part, the pure electric vehicles accumulate 97,351 units until October, of which 70,722 are passenger cars, with a growth of 59.1% compared to the same period in 2021.
