The DGT organizes a course to learn how to cycle

Date:

It will be taught from 12 to 21 December 2022 on the DGT Open Classroom online platform and participants will receive a certificate for passing the course

The bicycle is one of the most efficient, economical and ecological means of transport and its use is not only a beneficial exercise for health but also helps to solve problems such as traffic congestion or pollution.

But it’s also important
know the rules traffic, as this type of vehicle must share space with cars, trucks and pedestrians, as well as new personal mobility vehicles, such as scooters.

Therefore, as part of the education and training functions in road safety entrusted to it, the General Directorate of Traffic has just convened the fourth edition of its Basic Bicycle Mobility Course delivered through its online platform Aula open.

The course, which will be held from December 12 to 21, is aimed at the general population
that starts with the use of the bicycle in the urban environment, be it potential or regular cyclists. Registration is open until this Sunday, November 27, and participants will receive a 20-hour certificate to pass.

This course, structured by
didactic units with videos explanation and additional information (“The bicycle as a means of transport”, “Your vehicle”, “Bicycle control” and “Circulation by bicycle”), aims to improve cycling training by, on the one hand, the layperson on the subject of the fundamental aspects of this means of transport and, on the other hand, providing experienced cyclists with new, more efficient and safer circulation techniques.

The course has
a forum for solving doubts and the exchange of experiences and, to check the follow-up and understanding of the content, tests are also included to evaluate the evolution of knowledge during the training activity.

Students receive extra lessons on both a substantive and technical level from specialists from the DGT and the Provincial Coordinators for Road Safety who, in addition to monitoring, can also answer questions or provide additional information.

The traffic law has become tough and it is clear when it comes to taking a scooter or electric bicycle with you: you are not allowed to wear headphones, use your mobile phone or other device while driving.

Likewise, you must not exceed the speed limits or the breath analysis limits (including 0.0 for minors). The drivers are subject to the same maximum alcohol rates allowed by the road safety law as well as the
prohibition to drive with the presence of drugs in the organism.

In the case of this type of vehicle, the use of a helmet is also mandatory and you are not allowed to drive on the pavement, as well as driving on interurban roads,
highways, highways, highways or city tunnels. Similarly, the legal reform soon aims to include the use of reflective clothing, certificates for scooters and specific permits.
