It is a futuristic single-seater with a more extreme version of the V6 that is also integrated in the recently introduced Ferrari 499P.
The Ferrari Vision Gran Turismo,
a single-seater with closed wheel, is the first Ferrari concept car created specifically for the world of virtual competition. The design of the car is firmly rooted in the incomparable tradition in the Maranello racing world.
The model symbolizes on the one hand
an important step for Ferrari in the virtual universe, which will inspire future generations of passionate drivers and fans; and, on the other hand, a redefinition of the company’s stylistic language. In addition, it represents a futuristic design manifesto for Ferrari’s road and race cars, communicating the highest expression of formal beauty and innovation, and providing a creative stimulus for both the engineers and drivers (real and virtual) of the future.
The design of the Ferrari Vision Gran Turismo was carried out by Ferrari Centro Stile led by Flavio Manzoni and was directly inspired by
Ferrari’s legendary sports prototypes from the 1960s and 1970s, which achieved great success in endurance races such as the 24 Hours of Le Mans (a total of nine times won by the prancing horse) and the 24 Hours of Daytona. With spectacular proportions and futuristic lines, the car fulfills its stylistic mission by effortlessly embodying the DNA of masterpieces such as the 330 P3 and 512 S, while paying homage to the racing history of the Prancing Horse and offering a tantalizing glimpse into the future evolution of racing cars with closed wheels.
The Ferrari Vision Gran Turismo features the same 120-degree turbocharged 3-litre V6 architecture found in the 296 GTB, 296 GTS and 296 GT3 that also powers the new 499P. However, in this configuration there was no need to comply with the constraints of the technical regulations, so it was further refined to unleash truly extreme performance. In this specific configuration
the engine is tuned to deliver 1,030 hp at 9,000 rpm, with 240 kW (326 hp) extra power from three electric motors, one on the rear axle and one on each of the front wheels. Ferrari has worked with Gran Turismo to ensure that the engine sound of this innovative powertrain is faithfully reproduced to give virtual drivers an even more realistic racing experience.
The body of the Ferrari Vision Gran Turismo looks as if it hangs above the flat carbon fiber floor that houses all the technical components of the car, making the form pure.
to accentuate the car’s lateral dynamics when driving at the limit. The powertrain layout ensures an optimal balance between front and rear weights and an extremely low center of gravity in favor of four-wheel drive. The elasto-kinematic suspension has been developed around the performance characteristics of the tires used in Gran Turismo, together with the car’s aerodynamic balance, to ensure superior performance on both demanding street and off-road circuits.
The suspension is designed in such a way that by preserving the contact patch of the tires, maximum traction is guaranteed,
enabling the Ferrari Vision Gran Turismo to deliver 1100 Nm from the rear engine torque of the ICE/MGU-K combination to the road. The result is extraordinary performance. The vehicle’s state-of-the-art electronic controls give the car incomparable agility and driving balance, bringing the fame that all Ferraris, both on the road and in competition, boast. The gaming experience has been optimized to faithfully reproduce the emotions of driving a Ferrari, conveying an exact sense of the achievable limits and enhancing the car’s performance.
The car also counts
with hybrid technology which benefits from the unique expertise in electric acceleration and energy recovery strategies developed by Ferrari in Formula 1. The constant balancing of the battery’s state of charge allows the driver to optimize the combined power of the internal and external combustion engines to use. electric, so that maximum performance is achieved both in qualifying rounds and in successive race rounds.
The interior design is
an extension of the exterior, with a purist and minimalist approach that offers optimal functionality and driving ergonomics. The lines of the dashboard are clean and understated and, together with the transparent cover that frames the hybrid V6 engine, incorporate high-tech transparent materials to reveal the mechanical components of the refined and modern steering wheel. The user interface is designed to be direct and easy to use, allowing the driver to concentrate fully on the road.
