Mercedes-Benz is launching a global high-power charging network

Date:

Customers of the German company can book a charging station in advance from their car, but the service will be open and accessible to all brands

Mercedes-Benz announces far-reaching plans to launch a global high-power charging network in North America, Europe, China and other key markets. Construction will begin this year in the US and Canada, followed by other regions around the world. The goal is to have the entire grid ready before the end of the decade, when Mercedes-Benz plans to go all-electric when market conditions allow. Mercedes-Benz’s powerful charging network will significantly improve the charging experience for customers, accelerate the path to the all-electric future and create an infrastructure advantage with great potential for future value creation. The Mercedes-Benz charging stations will be located in major cities and urban centres, close to major arterial roads and major sales and service points, including participating Mercedes-Benz dealers.

The company believes this strategic move will significantly improve the ease of use and comfort of its new generation of electric vehicles, differentiate the Mercedes-Benz owner experience and accelerate the transformation of electric vehicles. The charging network will primarily focus on Mercedes-Benz customers, who will receive, among other things, preferential access via a reservation function. However, it is also open to drivers of all other brands with compatible technology. This wide-ranging initiative, along with continued support for shared networks such as Ionity, also aims to fuel the global expansion of electric mobility.

In line with its sustainable business strategy ‘Ambition 2039’, Mercedes-Benz aims to enable its customers to charge with green electricity on their own charging network. Preferably via supply contracts for green electricity or via renewable energy certificates from a recognized supplier. Selected Mercedes-Benz charging points will also be equipped with photovoltaic systems to provide electricity for lighting and video surveillance, for example.

The establishment of the Mercedes-Benz High Power Charging network means an expansion of the existing charging offer. Through Mercedes me Charge, the company already offers its customers access to nearly one million charging points worldwide, including the pan-European fast-charging network Ionity, operated by Mercedes-Benz and other manufacturers.
