The e-Bikes segment, or electric bicycles, has experienced significant growth in the market. The last two years of data available for the industry, 2020 and 2021, are the best in the history, with sales already surpassing one and a half million units for the first time.

During these two years, e-bikes have increased their role in the market and have managed to exceed 200,000 units sold each year, a milestone for a segment that barely passed 10,000 units in 2012.

They are just another vehicle, but if you look at the behavior of their drivers, they are nothing like that. and with one
major lack of knowledge of the rules. For that reason, traffic laws have become tough and it is clear when you ride an electric bicycle: you are not allowed to wear headphones, use your mobile phone or any other device while riding.

Likewise, you must not exceed the speed limits or the breath analysis limits (including 0.0 for minors). The drivers are subject to the same alcohol limits allowed by the road safety law, as well as the prohibition to drive with the presence of drugs in the body.

In the case of this type of vehicle, the use of a helmet is also mandatory and you are not allowed to drive on the pavement, as well as on interurban roads, intersections, highways, dual carriageways or urban tunnels. Likewise, the legal reform is intended to soon include the use of reflective clothing and specific permits.
