How do you prevent a day of skiing from becoming a traffic fine?

Date:

Driving with your jacket on or not placing the load correctly are punishable acts

A great day in the snow can become your worst nightmare. Since the temperatures are quite low in snowy areas and on ski slopes and we sometimes drive the car on short journeys, many drivers do not take off their coats to drive. The General Traffic Regulations of the DGT stipulate that the driver’s clothing must allow him freedom of movement, failure to comply with this can lead to fines of 100 euros. In the event that such clothing involves negligent driving,
would increase the fine to 200 euros.

It is clear that in areas with regular snowfall, ice or adverse conditions reflected on the road, the use of the right tires is essential and mandatory. The DGT usually informs about the needs of a road affected by frost or snow, such as the use of chains. Winter tires or chains are required depending on the snow on a track, and failure to wear them can result in a fine of 200 euros.

While many may be surprised, according to section 84 of the DGT traffic law, officers have the option of stopping the car if it “has defects that pose a particularly serious risk to road safety”. That is, if the windscreen is so dirty that it barely allows visibility, the fine can be up to 200 euros. The same applies to the condition of the wiper, 80 euros if it does not work properly.

Moreover, if the car is so dirty that even the license plates are no longer distinguishable, the DGT considers this a reason for an offense and a fine will follow. In the case of conscientious handling of the record, the
fine will be 6,000 euros and 6 points Except the driver’s license. So be very careful about the snow that accumulates in our car, or the dirt it creates after a few kilometers traveled.

Also be very careful when leaving backpacks, bags or ski equipment in the back seat of the car as this is an offence. It is reflected in Article 14 of the General Traffic Regulations (RGC), which states that the load carried in a vehicle must not be “dragged, fall in whole or in part, or move in a dangerous manner”. The same section specifies that the cargo “must not compromise the stability of the vehicle” or could result in a fine of 200 euros.

Finally, and although if you do not have more luggage in the trunk you can use the roof of the car to carry the skis for example, you must be very careful because to load the roof you must also comply with the regulations regarding the dimensions. Failure to comply may result in a fine from the DGT of 500 euros and loss of 4 points from the card.

And it is that carrying the load incorrectly can be dangerous on the road. It is critical to comply with safety precautions, otherwise all passengers will be traveling in the car “you will be exposed to serious injury, even death, if an incident occurs.”
