An Israeli border police officer was accidentally shot dead by a security guard during an attack by a Palestinian in East Jerusalem on Monday.
According to police, a 13-year-old attacked the border police officer with a knife while he was checking a bus at a military barrier. The civilian security guard then shot the attacker. The border police officer was hit and mortally wounded. The suspect fled but was later apprehended.
Tense security situation
The security situation in Israel and the Palestinian territories is extremely tense. Since the beginning of the year, nine Israelis and one Ukrainian have been killed in attacks by Palestinians. Since early January, 47 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli army raids and their own attacks.
