New Mercedes CLA, with the latest connectivity systems and driver assistance from the German manufacturer

With numerous innovations and improved standard equipment, Mercedes will soon (launch date and prices to be announced) strengthen the position of the second generation CLA Coupé and CLA Shooting Brake as trendsetters in the compact segment. Striking redesigned body elements include the front apron, the revised radiator grille with a new star design and the rear diffuser. Added to this are the new graphics for the High Performance LED headlights and LED taillights. The new CLA models are fitted as standard with 17-inch five-spoke light-alloy wheels in vanadium silver or five-twin-spoke design in gloss black with a high-gloss finish.

Eye-catchers in the interior are the dual independent instrument display, which now consists of a 7-inch screen and a 10.25-inch screen. Two 10.25-inch widescreen aspect displays are optionally available. The CLA contains the latest generation of the MBUX, with new display styles: “Classic” provides all relevant information for the driver, “Sporty” impresses with the dynamic rev counter and “Discreet” is limited to the essentials. In addition to three modes (Navigation, Assistance, Service) and seven colours, the instrument panel and central display can be adapted to the driver’s wishes and the situation. The central screen offers all functions such as navigation, media, telephone, vehicle, etc. and can be operated as a touchscreen.

Mercedes CLA models with AMG trim offer the new steering wheel as standard in a double-spoke design with seamlessly integrated buttons. The buttons on the AMG steering wheel impress with their brilliant display and highly intuitive operating logic. This allows you to operate key driving functions and all driving programs without having to take your hands off the wheel. New trim elements in a dark carbon look, in wood or brown microfibre further enhance the interior. The comfort seats are also standard equipment and feature a combination of imitation leather and fabric with three-dimensional relief in black.

Mercedes-Benz has significantly improved the standard equipment of the CLA range, as in addition to the leather steering wheel and LED headlights, it includes the high-beam assistant, the reversing camera and the USB package from the basic equipment. Starting with vehicles equipped with the Progressive equipment line, they also have the parking package and mirrors. The new CLA models also improve in terms of safety support. With the extensive driving assistance package, for example, the Lane Keeping Assist is controlled much more comfortably by active steering control. The new generation of the parking package enables longitudinal parking and offers 360-degree views for camera-assisted parking using 3D images.

Gasoline engines are now fully electrified and include standard four-cylinder engines with 7- or 8-speed dual-clutch DCT automatic transmission, with power ratings of 136, 163, 190, 224 hp. Turbo diesel engines can have power variants of 116, 150 and 190 hp. The sports models AMG 35 and AMG 45 deliver 306 and 421 hp respectively. The bow thrusters are electrified with an additional 48-volt power supply that improves starting with an additional 10 kW of additional power. The new starter-alternator enables a quiet engine start with low vibrations, as well as the ability to drive at a constant speed with the combustion engine turned off. During braking and acceleration, the alternator recovers and supplies electrical power to the 12-volt on-board network and the 48-volt battery. This assists the combustion engine during acceleration. With this light hybridization system, the new CLAs have the DGT ECO label.

48-volt Mild Hybrid technology also increases comfort, making start-stop and coasting transitions nearly seamless. The powerful 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo engine produces 225 kW (306 hp), which is distributed variably between the four wheels via the AMG 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and 4MATIC all-wheel drive. Sporty performance (acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds) is combined with a wide range of driving experiences, from very sporty to comfortable over long distances.

Also available in the CLA range are new plug-in hybrid engines with a minimum recorded average consumption of 1.1 liters of petrol over the time the vehicle is used in conjunction with the electric battery. The autonomy in fully electric mode is now 82 kilometers. As for the charging system, three options remain available: in addition to the standard 3.7 kW, the battery can now also be charged with alternating current and up to 11 kW instead of the previous 7.4 kW. The new CLA models also still offer the possibility to charge the battery with direct current and up to 22 kW. A DC charge from 10% to 80% takes about 25 minutes.

With an output of 421 hp, the sportiest CLAs accelerate from standstill to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds. The maximum speed is limited to 270 km/h. The drive to the rear axle contains two electronically controlled multi-plate clutches, each of which is connected to a cardan shaft on the rear axle. In this way, the drive force is not only variably distributed between the front and rear axles, but also between the left and right rear wheels.

The CLA 45 S 4MATIC Coupé and Shooting Brake models feature the limited special AMG Street Style Edition. They are distinguished by the side foils with the AMG logo in checkered flag design and emphasize their sporty appearance. This special edition features 19-inch AMG 5-twin-spoke light-alloy wheels in matt black with a high-gloss turned rim flange. The red painted calipers form a nice contrast to both wheels. The interior of the AMG Street Style Edition also features AMG Performance seats in black microfibre, trimmed with orange stitching and accents.
