Liux Geko, the new bet of the Spanish start-up that wants to make the most ecological cars in the world

Date:

After the development and presentation of the Liux Animal, a demonstration of the technical and design capacity of LIUX, the Spanish start-up dedicated to the automotive world, the brand now presents the Geko, a small urban model that is easier to carry during production with which this disruptive company wants to put the car industry on the ground. The main reason is a very ecological construction, with an aluminum chassis and flax fiber body, similar in resistance to carbon fiber but fully recyclable and of natural origin, meaning that this new Liux leaves a carbon footprint 40 percent lower than that of any urban and electric model of its size, usually made of plastic and steel. The development of this model was already planned when the Liux Animal was presented, a “halo” model that hit the mark with a “shooting” configuration break and a body with opposing opening doors becoming fashionable among the prototypes and some series models, but the company’s first step in terms of production has always been the Geko, as reported to the press during a visit to the Linux headquarters in Santa Pola (Alicante), in the summer of 2022. The aesthetic result is remarkable, with a very compact, wide model, with the wheels on the corners and with a great use of the interior space. The design is very attractive, a difficult task in a car of this size, but one that the design team led by Antonio Garrido successfully solved, with daytime running lights similar to the Animal’s in a raised position and headlights in a lowest position. At the back, the pilots are long and have squared shapes, so they are more visible, are not exposed to urban accidents and allow better entry of packs into the metalhead. The Geko shows a careful design that is unusual in this category of microcars. The chassis is aluminum, with a central battery, a rear motor and a flax fiber body. The body is made of fibers of natural origin and easily recyclable. FP The batteries, as in the Animal prototype, are easy to replace with others of the same size but with greater capacity in the event that battery technology advances in the coming years, so that the Liux Geko extends its life on the street and is not affected by technological obsolescence, creating a model that stays on the market longer than other electric models. As confirmed by the company’s CEO, Antonio Espinosa de los Monteros, “the market for this type of car is growing by 13 percent every year, due to demand from car sharing companies as well as from car rental companies and private customers. For them, Liux wants to provide the most ecological offer offer on the market, by massively reducing the environmental footprint during the production process and making it easier to recycle the body and components in the future.” The presentation of the Liux Geko will be accompanied by the industrial plan for production and sales, a more direct way to address the decisive market of investors who will have the opportunity to bet on this start-up with a product that will serve to explore all the possibilities of the flax fiber body. For David Sancho, technical director of the company, “the evolution of the Geko project is essential for us, it is an easier car to produce, cheaper to market and therefore easier to sell, and it interests investors. Clearly, we’ve had several conversations with both capital funds and a manufacturer who wants to fully capitalize the investment required for the development and production of the Geko. The price has not yet been determined, but would be in line with the competitors in this market, which are currently between 8,000 and 15,000 euros, a very interesting bet from a “start-up” that is still financed exclusively with private funds .
