Ireland has imposed one fine of 1,200 million euros to Meta for breaching the privacy of its users on the social network Facebook. In addition, the Irish Data Protection Commission (DCP) has ordered the multinational to suspend transfers of users’ personal data from the European Union to the United States.

The fine is the highest economic sanction imposed in the EU on a multinational for data protection violations, after the €746 million imposed on Amazon in 2021.
