How ‘car sharing’ works in Spain’s smallest town

Date:

With only 4 inhabitants, Illán de Vacas has a car-sharing service

According to the INE, Illán de Vacas is the smallest town in Spain. The 4 inhabitants dream of being bigger, but the institutions don’t pay much attention to it. Growing and increasing the population is one of their goals, but to achieve this, like many of the cities in empty Spain, they need some incentives.

Hyundai has gone to this small town and verified that despite their size, they are huge. That is why Illán de Vacas, the smallest city in Spain, is the city chosen to launch ‘VIVe’, the nationwide car-sharing system committed to maintaining a strong commitment to the environment and sustainable mobility solutions for the rural Spain.

In a world made by and for cities, Hyundai’s ‘VIVe’ was born in 2019 by and for the people. The brand chose Campisábalos for its launch, the city with the cleanest air in Spain and the third in the world, and the first venue to host Hyundai’s first 100% electric carsharing in rural areas, which was well received. Since then, and during these years, ‘VIVe’ has continued to grow and there are already dozens of cities that have access to sustainable mobility.

From May 10, Illán de Vacas, the smallest town in Spain according to the National Institute of Statistics, will join the extensive list of cities already enjoying the ‘VIVe’ service.

Any municipality with less than 10,000 inhabitants will be able to request the arrival of this new shared and clean mobility at the nearest Hyundai dealer. The Hyundai dealer network will make the service available and provide the necessary support during the start-up.

With this service, residents who are registered in the cities affiliated with VIVe will initially be able to enjoy the service free of charge for three months. After this period, the service will be paid and anyone who comes to the municipality will be able to use the vehicle through the VIVe app, developed and created by Dealerbest exclusively for this initiative. Through this platform, users can easily manage and unlock the vehicle’s reservation for use, as well as report any damage or access the available fleet of vehicles. In addition, this App monitors the correct use of the service, for example limiting movements within a maximum radius of 150 km.

In addition, Hyundai will install a charging point in the city, which will also serve as a delivery and collection point for the vehicle. Javier Bollaín, Mayor of Illán de Vacas explains that “VIVe represents a big step forward for us thanks to the sustainable mobility that Hyundai has provided us with, which allows Illán de Vacas to attract new residents, allowing us to grow more every day”.

That is why this municipality is the protagonist of its new ‘VIVe’ campaign. Now Spain’s smallest town already has Hyundai’s 100% electric rural car-sharing service, aiming to promote the arrival of new neighbors and make the city as big as they want it to be.

“Somos Grandes” is the play starring its 4 inhabitants, which also includes the special participation of the presenter and adventurer Jesús Calleja, ambassador of Hyundai.
