Nissan calculates that the Vehicle to Grid system of the Nissan LEAF can save more than 2,500 euros per year on electricity bills

Borja Carabante, the deputy of the governmental space for environment and mobility of the Madrid City Council, has announced an increase of €4 million for the item earmarked for the purchase of efficient vehicles in Madrid’s Cambia 360 plan. According to the municipal official, “the evidence of citizens’ interest in this type of vehicle is that the first batch lasted barely two weeks.”

Carabante made this announcement during the VII Nissan Forum, an event that has been running for more than 7 years with the aim of transferring the benefits of sustainable, electrified and autonomous mobility to society. On this occasion, Nissan has brought together two of the key players to move towards this new scenario: the Municipality of Madrid and Iberdrola.

On behalf of the Madrid City Council, Borja Carabante is going to extend the credit of the Cambia 360 grants for the renewal of private vehicles due to the high demand from registered applicants since the registration period opened on May 13. In less than two weeks, the 7 million euros available to buy ECO vehicles have been exhausted and the waiting list to qualify for this series of grants is growing every day. For the purchase of ZERO vehicles, only EUR 450,000 remains of the 3 million reserved, and 260,000 of the 500,000 planned for the C.

With the first call for Cambia 360 support for private vehicles in 2021, all subsidies for the purchase of ECO and ZERO emissions vehicles were quickly exhausted and gave rise to a credit extension of 1.5 million.

Speaking in the second round, Raquel Blanco, Global Director of Smart Mobility at Iberdrola, emphasized “the need for coordinated and effective action by the key agents involved to promote electromobility. This is one of the main lines of action of the Iberdrola sustainable mobility plan.” group, which has already enabled the installation of 20,000 charging points in Spain, both in homes and businesses, as well as on urban roads, in cities and on major highways. The company is also a leader in fast charging, with 20% of the total network in the country.

During this second shift, Manuel Burdiel Sales Director of Nissan Iberia praised Nissan’s commitment to electrification and described it as unique in the market, as Nissan’s commitment goes beyond the vehicle itself, taking into account aspects as important as the infrastructure, the Vehicle to Grid system that makes it possible to reduce the electricity bill for users of electric vehicles or the circular economy through the second life of batteries, as is already the case in the Ajax Stadium in Amsterdam or in the city of Melilla. Manuel Burdiel literally said: “Our Nissan LEAF’s Vehicle to Grid system can save a consumer more than £2,500 a year on their electricity bill.”

In addition, Manuel Burdiel emphasized the savings that an electric vehicle can provide compared to a traditional one, which would range from 2,000 euros to 4,500 euros.

Burdiel reported that despite the need for more charging points, it is already possible today to cover long distances with an electric vehicle thanks to the increase in charging points and the increase in the autonomy of electric vehicles. He also wanted to appreciate the Dealership Network in this strong commitment to electrification, as all our dealers have one or more fast chargers to provide energy.

He also alluded to taxes as an essential element to boost the electric vehicle market even faster and faster. Temporary VAT reductions on electric vehicles or complete exemption from road tax for the same vehicles, together with the introduced incentive plans, could triple the current sales market for electric vehicles in our country.

As an example of reusing and recycling batteries once they are no longer operational in vehicles, the Nissan representative gave the example of the initiative launched at the Johan Cruijff Arena. This system guarantees the power supply to the Ajax stadium in Amsterdam, even if there is a power failure. Not only is it a stopgap solution, but it also allows the Johan Cruijff Arena to use the energy stored in these batteries when there are peaks in demand and electricity is more expensive. It will also make it possible to balance the electricity network of the Dutch capital, as this energy will also be produced by the 4,000 solar panels installed in the stadium. With this system, Ajax’s head office will in future also be able to supply the residents of their neighborhood with power in the event of a power failure.
