Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles opens orders for the ID. Buzz after debuting at the big annual gathering of enthusiasts for the brand, the FurgoVolkswagen
The Transporter T1, the mythical Bulli, became an icon of the ‘hippie era’ and of the social and cultural revolution of the 1960s. Seventy years after its launch, Volkswagen wants to use the new
ID card Disruptiona one hundred percent electric commercial vehicle that drinks from the spirit of the original model.
The new model was first seen in Spain at the FurgoVolkswagen, the brand’s large annual concentration of enthusiasts, which kicked off the commercial launch, although the first units will not be launched until the end of the year.
“The ID. Buzz is the electrical reincarnation of an icon”, in the words of
Alberto Teichman, CEO of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles. It will also be the first commercial vehicle to be designed as a 100% electric model since launch, as opposed to its rivals, electrified variants of thermal vehicles. Something that, according to the manager, will provide a high degree of efficiency, greater maneuverability and better habitability.
It is available in two versions, ID. Buzz for passengers and Buzz Cargo for freight. For the time being, it is only marketed in Spain with a net battery of 77 kWh, with which you can cover just over 400 kilometers on a single charge in both versions. According to Volkswagen, it can be charged from 5 to 80% in just 30 minutes, at charging stations compatible with speeds of 170 kW.
With its launch, Volkswagen is targeting customers in the SUV segment, which it wants to seduce with its spaciousness. There will be a version for up to seven passengers, while the 5-seat variant (which the brand estimates will concentrate the bulk of sales) will retain enough cargo space for 1,121 litres, which grows to 2,205 when the second row of seats is folded down.
The Cargo variant, on the other hand, offers a capacity of 3.9 cubic meters, with space for two Euro pallets. The maximum authorized mass is 3,000 kilograms and the
maximum load of 650 kilograms Access to the trunk is via the tailgate or via one or two optional sliding side doors. Both variants are powered by a 150 kW motor.
The ID Buzz, like the ID.3, ID.4 and ID.5 passenger cars, is assembled on the MEB modular platform, which allows it to offer a wide wheelbase -wheelbase- of 2.98 meters, for a total length of 4 .71 in the short version (a larger version will be released later). And, like them, it can include technological innovations, such as a large virtual reality head-up display or the advanced IQ.Light interior lighting system, which provides information about the status of charging or navigation. Another noteworthy aspect is that, in both the passenger and the Cargo versions, the cupboard between the seats with the spaces for depositing drinks is removable and hides an ice scraper and a bottle opener.
What Volkswagen has not yet confirmed are the prices from which it will be available in Spain, something it will do in the coming weeks. Yes, the rates in Germany are already known: 54,430 euros for the Cargo option and 64,581 euros for the passenger option, before the support plans for the purchase of electric vehicles are applied.
