Rules to be followed in order not to be fined for riding a bicycle or electric scooter

Date:

Among other things, their drivers are subject to the same maximum alcohol percentages allowed by the Road Safety Act, as well as the prohibition to drive with the presence of drugs.

They are just another vehicle, but when they see the behavior of their drivers, they don’t look like it. And with a great ignorance of the rules. For this reason, the traffic law has become strict and clear when it comes to carrying an electric scooter or bicycle: you are not allowed to wear headphones,
don’t use a cell phone or other device while driving.

Just like you can’t exceed the speed limits or blood alcohol limits (including 0.0 for minors). Your drivers are
subject to the same maximum alcohol percentages allowed by the road safety law, as well as the prohibition to drive with the presence of drugs in the body.

In the case of this type of vehicle, wearing a helmet is also mandatory and it is not possible to drive on the sidewalk, as well as driving on interurban roads, intersections, highways, dual carriageways or urban tunnels. Likewise, the legal reform will soon envisage the use of reflective clothing, scooter certificates and specific permits.

For its part, the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) has published instructions with basic measures for the use of electric scooters, but
Municipal councils have the power to regulate their use by law pending a reform of the General Lending Regulations. So it is not the same to use an electric scooter in a city like Barcelona than to do it in Madrid.

Electric scooter drivers have simply become another user of the road and must coexist with cars, trucks, vans and of course with other more vulnerable users such as pedestrians, cyclists or motorcyclists. Given the greater presence in cities, it is necessary to have a single document containing the regulations in force in a part of Spain. It is thus established:

-A VMP is a vehicle with one or more wheels, a single seat and powered solely by electric motors. The maximum speed is 25 km/h.

-It is forbidden to drive under the influence of alcohol

-It is forbidden to drive with the mobile and headphones.

– It is also forbidden to circulate on sidewalks.

-The use of bell and lighting is recommended.

-The use of a helmet and other protective equipment is indicated with every Municipal Ordinance.

-In the VMP only one person is authorized to transport.

-In the Municipal Ordinances, the prohibitions are laid down on stops and parking spaces and places where circulation is possible.

But each municipality may have specific rules. That is why Norauto has published the first guide containing the regulations of the DGT and the regulations in force in cities such as Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Seville and Pamplona. This guide is updated based on existing regulations and updates of municipal ordinances.

For example, while in Madrid the minimum age for its use is 15 years, in Barcelona it is set at 16 years. This same age is for Valencia, while in Pamplona we are talking about 14 years and 15 in Seville. The same applies when it comes to knowing which roads you are allowed to drive on, the maximum speed that can be reached or parking bans.
