Opel Vivaro-e, a very capable electric van

In recent months, the range of electric commercial vehicles has multiplied, especially with a view to the
city delivery on the last mile One of the novelties is the Opel Vivaro-e, which quickly took first place in sales in Germany and the United Kingdom.

The ‘cousin’ of the Citroën Jumpy, Peugeot Expert and Fiat Scudo – they all share a platform, mechanics and much of the body – the Opel Vivaro-e is available in three lengths: Short (4.60 meters or two euros) ). pallets), Medium (4.95 or three euro pallets) and Long (5.30). It is offered with two battery sizes, 50 or 75 kWh, which translates into the ability to travel up to 220 or 330 kilometers on a single charge.

In our case, we spent a week testing a unit with a 136 hp motor (the only one available) and the largest battery size. It offers a high efficiency, with a fairly low consumption, about 22 kWh, during our test of about 300 kilometers, mostly on intercity trains. The system contributes to this
regenerative charging built-in, which allows to take advantage of the energy of deceleration and braking by having a retention mode – manually activated by means of a ‘B’ button on the instruments-.

The batteries, which are placed under the floor, hardly take up space and load capacity, which amounts to 1,275 kilograms and can grow another 1,000 with a trailer. In addition, as in the thermal version, there is also the optional FlexCargo system, a side door -which can be electrically placed- on the passenger side and which makes loading and unloading easier.

Despite the fact that its autonomy is still less than that of its equivalent with a diesel engine (which offers more than 500 km), its major appeal lies in a significantly lower cost per trip if a charging point is available at the destination, even more so after the recent fuel spike. Furthermore it is
bit noisy and more comfortable drive a diesel commercial vehicle, thanks to the absence of vibrations and noise generated by the engine.

For charging, it has a socket on the left front wing, which means you always have to park straight ahead and can be difficult in certain narrow passages. Two different chargers are available, 7.4 or 11 kW.
