Just two beers or two wines are enough to give a positive breath test

Date:

While it is ideal not to take a single drop before touching a steering wheel, Spanish law sets the limit at 0.5 grams per liter of blood, except for novice or professional drivers where the speed drops to 0.3

Summer is just around the corner and family and friends get togethers on weekends, on the beach or in the mountains and even the festivities of the patron saints. Parties where almost all drivers wonder how much they can still drink, especially if they have to drive a car later.

While it is ideal not to take a single drop before touching a handlebar, Spanish law sets the limit at 0.5 grams per liter of blood (or 0.25 mg/L of exhaled air), except for novice or professional drivers. to 0.3 (0.15).

To this end, the DGT has drawn up a table in which it explains some equivalences. It must be remembered that it is only indicative, it depends on the weight and constitution of the person and must always be kept low: if you are close to the limit with two beers, it is better to drink only one .

You should also consider the blood alcohol level curve, which is based on the fact that alcohol can be detected in the blood 5 minutes after ingestion and reaches its maximum level between 30 and 90 minutes later.

In particular, the pure alcohol drunk is calculated by multiplying the strength of the drink used (a number followed by the zero of degrees (º) printed on the drink label) by the amount ingested (in cubic centimeters or milliliters and by 0.8 – alcohol density – divided by 100. The BAC is thus calculated by dividing the number of grams of pure alcohol ingested by the weight (in kilograms) of the drinker, multiplied by 0.7 (0.6 for women with a alcohol tolerance that is less).

The effects occur from the very first moment, even at lower rates than allowed for driving. For example, the reaction time already increases, coordination problems start and the speed is underestimated. When exceeding 0.5 gr/l. of blood alcohol, vision problems starting and above 0.8, severe attention and coordination problems and strong sleepiness.

Driving from 1.2 gr/l alcohol level (0.6 in the exhaled air) is considered a crime, with a prison sentence of 3 to 6 months.

For car and bicycle riders: The legal maximum in blood is 0.5 grams per liter, or alcohol in exhaled air is never higher than 0.25 milligrams per liter.

novice drivers: The maximum permitted alcohol percentage is 0.3 grams per liter of blood and 0.15 milligrams per liter of alcohol in exhaled air during the two years after obtaining the permit or permit.

professional drivers with vehicles with a maximum authorized mass exceeding 3,500 kilograms, vehicles intended for the transport of passengers with more than nine seats, or public transport, school and small-scale transport, dangerous goods or emergency services or special transport: they are sanctioned if they drive with a blood alcohol level of more than 0.3 grams per litre, or breath alcohol of more than 0.15 milligrams per litre.

The amount of the fine for exceeding the permitted alcohol rates is 500 euros and 4 or 6 points, which would become 1000 euros and the withdrawal of 4 or 6 points if the driver had already been fined in the immediately preceding year for alcohol for exceeding the speed limit, as well as the one circulating at a speed exceeding twice the speed limit.

It is a criminal offense if the alcohol content in the exhaled air is higher than 0.60 milligrams per liter or if the blood alcohol content is more than 1.2 grams per liter or when driving under the influence of it.

The sanction in this case would be imprisonment for three to six months or a fine of six to twelve months or employment of social security benefits from 31 to 90 days, and in any case denial of the right to drive motor vehicles and mopeds for more than one and a maximum of four years.

minors: Drivers under the age of 18, who are currently unable to drive a car with a B1 license, are allowed to drive mopeds and light quadricycles, electric scooters, bicycles and motorcycles with less than 125 cc.

And the new Traffic Act has added a new rate, which means that the smallest amount of alcohol cannot be detected in underage users, namely 0 g/l in the blood and 0 mg/l in exhaled air. There are fines between 500 and 1,000 euros on this new violation.
