‘The Beast’ arrives in Madrid for NATO summit

Date:

A huge Cadillac is circulating in Madrid that would be impossible to see in any other situation. Today the NATO summit begins and the only delegation to bring its entire caravan is the US. This means that the president of the North American country, Joe Biden, has brought his official car, mostly manufactured by General Motors, affectionately known as “The Beast”.

Biden’s current version is that of 2018 for his predecessor, Donald Trump. And it will remain that way until 2024, as they are usually renewed every eight years. Its technical features are top secret for safety reasons, although it is known to share elements with Cadillac and GMC models, two decals that fall under the GM umbrella.

Some of the tweaks Biden has made to his new beast include a tear gas canister launcher under the front bumper, according to CNN. And machine guns were installed that could be fired outside without having to open doors or windows. In fact, all windows are solid because of the heavy armor protecting them.

The driver of the Cadillac One – always a Secret Service agent trained in evasion – will also travel in the vehicle with his own service weapon.

According to Fox News, the White House paid more than $15 million to develop and build the vehicles. In total, up to a dozen units could be produced, so the cost per unit would exceed 1.2 million euros.

The limousine is armored to protect the president from any kind of attack, even one involving chemical weapons. The interior is sealed and the doors are 20 centimeters thick.

The armor is military type, 12.7 centimeters thick and the tires are impervious to punctures. It has a capacity of seven people and the front part is separated from the back by glass. The seats are black and individually adjustable. Even in an emergency, it can be completely sealed so that only the Secret Service can open it.
