It is an innovative levitation system, which thanks to magnets eliminates the problem of high power consumption
Hyperloop UPV, the team of students from the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV) that has been working since 2016 on the mission to design a functional Hyperloop prototype to make the transport of the future a reality, has presented its new and groundbreaking prototype , auraan . They will compete with him in a new edition of the European Hyperloop Week (EHW), which will be held next July.
Auran is the first vehicle in the history of the team and EHW to be able to hover effectively. “The way to float this year is completely different and revolutionary than what we’ve done so far. We achieved this with highly efficient technology that draws Auran to the ceiling and walls in a controlled manner via magnets, rather than from It is an innovative levitation system that eliminates one of the most common problems in this type of system, such as high power consumption,” explains Javier Luján, technical director of the team.
In this way, by eliminating friction with the surface, Auran is lighter and faster than the previous prototypes of the UPV team. The vehicle also has a linear induction motor, which makes it possible to accelerate and brake with the motor itself, without touching the rail. Moreover, Auran is the safest prototype in the history of Hyperloop UPV.
As the team itself emphasizes, the most disturbing part of this year’s project is scalability. From their workshops, they have created an innovative interior design for Auran, as well as an important infrastructure for the development of this technology: a tube 20 meters long and weighing 10 tons, through which Auran will circulate at the EHW.
«The highlight of the interior is the design, which offers the passenger privacy and intimacy. Meanwhile, the tube, although adapted to Auran, can be used with the new prototypes that the team is developing in the coming years,” emphasizes José Luis Lores, technical director of the mechanical part of Hyperloop. UPV.
The UPV team will compete with Auran during the European Hyperloop Week, which will be held from 18 to 24 July at the University of Delft (Netherlands). Hyperloop UPV will be one of the two Spanish teams participating in this competition, arriving with a clear goal: to win. “Hyperloop UPV is a competitive team and we are going to the Netherlands for that. We believe we have a proposal that positions us as a leading team. It is an ambitious challenge, with many challenges at once: coordinating an engine with levitation, with a new infrastructure and for the first time inclusive interior design…- but we think we have the winning proposal,” said María Cuesta, captain of the Hyperloop UPS.
