What to do so that your car’s air conditioning doesn’t break down in the summer

Don’t see your holidays cut short for not keeping your vehicle in good condition throughout the year

High temperatures have come to Spain to stay. The heat will be the protagonist of the coming weeks. If you want to take your car out for trips this summer, you need to have the vehicle in perfect condition to avoid possible incidents on reels. Breakdowns in the middle of the day are very dangerous. That’s why you need constant maintenance on your vehicle, even if you don’t use it as much for the rest of the year as you do in the summer.

During high-temperature days, air conditioning proves to be a reliable ally. If you are going on a journey that may take several hours, it is best to check these types of vehicle components closely. The problem arises when your air conditioner starts to fail half way through. It can be very dangerous to travel without air conditioning in the summer, and even more so if there is a heat wave, as temperatures are very high and you can get dizzy while driving.

According to data published by the European Union Climate Change Service, the past seven years have been the warmest globally since annual temperatures were recorded. Thus, the heat problem increases and it is not recommended to drive long distances without air conditioning.

Heat can be an enemy of motorists, but also of cars. In the summer it’s harder to cool the mechanics because the outside air is hotter, with the car full of trunks, adding weight, aerodynamic drag and forcing the machine. This is when car breakdown occurs.

If you don’t want your car’s air conditioning to break down, you should avoid leaving it idle for up to seven months. In this case, the saying that things go bad if you don’t use them is true. You need to turn on the air from time to time so they don’t break when summer comes.

Another piece of advice is not to turn the air up to full power as soon as you get into the vehicle. This error assumes fuel costs. First we need to cool the car so as not to force the air conditioning and make it work correctly.

Sometimes it is not that the air is not pulling enough, but that you are not orienting the grilles efficiently. Therefore, you should position them so that the air reaches all the passengers of the vehicle and not just hits the driver.

As we say, the most important thing is that you do maintenance all year round and don’t just remember to use the air conditioning when it’s hot or in the summer. This vehicle function also serves, for example, to prevent the windscreen from fogging up due to temperature fluctuations that occur in winter.

In short, use it all year round. Not just when it’s hot; do not set it to maximum power as soon as you get in the car. It first dissipates the heat and cools the vehicle; and orient the diffusers so that the air reaches all passengers in the vehicle.
