Car sales fall 12% in July, accumulating an annual decline of 11%

Date:

In the past month, only corporate sales managed to deliver a positive result, with growth of 2.7% and 31,035 units sold

The month of July again registered negative figures in sales activities and vehicle registrations, accentuating the collapse of the automotive sector. In July, registrations remained at a total of 73,378 passenger cars and SUVs, a decrease of 12.54%, taking sales down 11% since January to 481,135 units. Over the past month, economic uncertainty has once again been dominated by economic uncertainty, driven by the rise in inflation and prices, and by the shortage of semiconductors that continues to dampen vehicle arrivals at dealerships, automotive and dealer employers said.

According to Félix García, Director of Communications and Marketing at ANFAC, these factors cause users to postpone their purchase or opt for a used vehicle. The latter is especially important because until July almost as many passenger cars older than 15 years as new cars were sold. A situation that neither benefits road safety nor contributes to the necessary decarbonization process of the old-fashioned Spanish fleet«.

Raúl Morales, communications director at Faconauto, explains that “July has traditionally been one of the best months of the year for the car as families planned to buy their new car before the holidays and car rental companies strengthened their fleet for the summer campaign. situations have not occurred this year, which has caused not only registrations but also orders to fall.

We have to start in 2012 to see a month of July with a lower number of registrations, which brings us back to numbers from the economic crisis at the time. According to GANVAM’s communications director, Tania Puche, “a lack of vehicles at points of sale due to the chip crisis is exacerbated by runaway inflation that is increasingly reducing household purchasing power and will slow the pace of market recovery in the coming months”.

Only corporate sales managed to deliver a positive result last month, with growth of 2.7% and 31,035 units sold. The individual channel, for its part, again suffered a 12.1% drop to 31,330 sales. As for tenant purchases, they maintain the annual trend of sharp decline, with 11,013 units in the seventh month, down 38.9% from the same month of the previous year. This channel suffers most from the lack of semiconductors.

In July, light commercial vehicle registrations continued to decline sharply, dropping 17.9% to a total of 11,279 units. In the total for the year, there will be a total of 68,138 units, which is a decrease of 33.1%. As for the channels, they are all on a downward trend, with the rental channel, with a drop of 33.7%, experiencing the largest drop.

Only industrial vehicle, bus, coach and microbus registrations maintained their sales increase in July with a growth of 18.8% and 1,842 units sold. For the year’s total, 14,393 units were collected, 9.3% more compared to the same period of the previous year.

With regard to industrial vehicles, excluding light industrial vehicles, the other segments recorded notable increases in the seventh month. Buses, for their part, fell 24.2% to 116 units this month.
