A serious car accident took place in St. Johann (Salzburg) on Wednesday night. Near the Salzach Bridge on Großarler Landesstrasse, a drunk driver crashed his car and ended up in the Salzach.
The driver was very lucky: he was only slightly injured and was able to free himself from the vehicle. After first aid, he was taken to the Schwarzach clinic. The alcohol test showed a value of 0.84 per thousand.
About 500 meters from the accident site
The car was swept away by the floodwaters. The water rescue team immediately went to the scene with the emergency services from the local offices in St. Johann im Pongau, Schwarzach and Bischofshofen. Together they went in search of the car with sonar equipment and four boats. This was subsequently discovered about 500 meters from the accident site.
Due to the strong current, salvage was not yet possible. The vehicle could not be recovered until the water level was lowered upstream by the power plant operators. The operation was completed around 3 a.m. About 40 water rescue men and 40 Floriani were deployed.
