Precipitation Warning – Vorarlberg could get extreme amounts of rain

Date:

From Friday, up to 150 liters of rain per square meter can fall in Vorarlberg, with the Dornbirn and Bregenzerwald areas in particular at risk. Because the ground is currently so dry, the constant rain can have unpleasant consequences.

The Central Institute of Meteorology (ZAMG) has already issued a precipitation warning. On Wednesday, the risk was still at level 1, level 2 could already be reached on Thursday. That would mean extreme amounts of rain.

The heat is over in the Ländle for the time being. A cold front from the west causes lower temperatures and rain. Precipitation is expected to become increasingly intense Friday night only selectively. “It really gets going on Friday morning. We have to expect a lot of rain,” explains meteorologist Christoph Zingerl from ZAMG in Innsbruck.

Soil is too dry
The permanent precipitation can be problematic – on Kachelmannwetter.com up to 150 liters per square meter is expected – for the soil. “The soil is very dry at the moment. As a result, the infiltration of rainwater is no longer sufficiently guaranteed and the water runs off at the surface,” says Zingerl. And that can have very unpleasant consequences. For example, smaller floods or roadblocks due to streams overflowing their banks at certain points. However, Zingerl did not expect extreme and large-scale consequences of Wednesday’s precipitation.

On the weekend the weather will be a bit more friendly, but you still have to take rain showers into account. Temperatures – they will barely reach 20 degrees on Friday – are rising again.
