Trees overturned – several injured in thunderstorm in Carinthia

Date:

On Thursday afternoon severe storms fell over Carinthia. The region around a bathing lake in St. Andrä in the Lavanttal was particularly hard hit. Several trees fell, according to information from “Krone” ten were injured – including children!

The storms also caused problems on the roads of Carinthia on Thursday afternoon. Storms knocked down trees and blocked the southern motorway (A2) towards Italy near Griffen (Völkermarkt district). Traffic was therefore diverted from the motorway at Wolfsberg Süd and flowed via Packer Straße (B70). The Bad St. Leonhard driveway north of Wolfsberg was also closed due to fallen trees, police and Asfinag said.

There were also problems on the Carinthian border with Styria on Thursday afternoon. According to the first information from Asfinag, there was a power outage, which closed the Pack tunnel chain on the A2 in both directions. It was initially unclear how long the lockdown would last.

Wind gusts of 140 km/h in Styria
Thursday afternoon also a heavy storm passed over Styria! The provincial capital of Graz was also particularly affected. By 4:00 pm, 40,000 households were without power, guest gardens were destroyed and objects were thrown through the air.
