Police had to be called in Vienna-Währing on Wednesday after – as reported – a 32-year-old broke into his ex-girlfriend’s apartment. On Thursday, the management announced more details about the operation: when the police wanted to arrest the suspect, they encountered resistance – in the form of a samurai sword! The alleged perpetrator was arrested despite threats.
The 32-year-old Austrian broke into his ex-girlfriend’s apartment in Gersthof around 9 a.m. and barricaded himself there. However, the victim’s mother noticed this and called the police. The WEGA troops then tried to break open the locked door because the suspect refused to open it. After the officers gained entry, the burglar approached them – with a samurai sword and a blackjack.
Police tried to de-escalate the situation and ordered him to surrender. Because the man was uncooperative, a taser had to be used to arrest him.
Multiple weapons found
During a search, the police were able to obtain a knife in addition to the samurai sword and the blackjack. The burglar was taken to prison on suspicion of burglary and resistance to state authority.
Wanted to be shot
As the ex-girlfriend’s mother explained, the man had already broken into the apartment in July. He is also banned on suspicion of coercion. He also wrote a text saying he wanted to be shot dead by the police.
