Two environmentalists have clung to the world-famous Laocoön group in the Vatican Museums in protest at what they consider to be misleading climate policies.
A video shows a woman and a man gluing their hands to the base of the statue. They place a poster in front of them that reads: “Last generation, no gas, no coal”.
The activists belong to the group “Ultima Generazione”. According to media reports, the security personnel removed the two again.
The Laocoön group in the Vatican Museums is located in the courtyard of Belvedere. The marble sculpture is considered the most important representation of the agony of Laocoon and his sons in the art world. The work has already been praised by Pliny the Elder. In 1506 it was rediscovered in Roman vineyards and given to the Vatican.
