A tram of line 11 was derailed in Vienna-Simmering on Saturday morning. There were no passengers on the tram at the time and the driver was not injured in the incident.
The incident happened at 6:30 am in the area of the Fickeysstraße stop – the affected tram had just come out of Simmering station and had started moving. The driver may have overlooked a switch during a split, causing the tram to jump off the rails at low speed.
“The exact course of the accident is being investigated,” a spokeswoman for Wiener Linien told APA. The cleanup work was done in full swing. The tram was lifted back onto the track, pulled in and thoroughly checked. “The train has now been deployed again,” said the spokeswoman.
Passers-by were not hit. There was no driving for two and a half hours, lines 11 and 71 did not run between Enkplatz, Grillgasse and Fickeysstraße. Normal operations had been restored by 9 a.m., Wiener Linien said.
