After an initially unknown person threw two manhole covers on the A7 from a German highway bridge near Hildesheim in the German state of Lower Saxony on Saturday evening, the police arrested a suspect over the weekend.
The suspect is a 50-year-old man from the Hildesheim district. Police and the public prosecutor announced last weekend that he had been the target during the search for the crime.
Manhole cover broken windshield
One of the manhole covers had hit a moving car and broke through the windshield. The 52-year-old driver was seriously injured, his 43-year-old passenger in critical condition. Rescue workers treated the two injured from Baden-Württemberg and took them to a hospital. The 43-year-old is now out of danger. The second manhole cover ended up in the oncoming lane and damaged at least four vehicles.
The suspect is due to appear in court on Sunday. Further details were initially unknown. The police have set up a killing squad. Several cases of attempted manslaughter were investigated.
