After the accident that took place on Saturday during the “Kärntner IWD Auto Small Slalom Cup” race in Patergassen (Carinthia), the investigations are in full swing. Drones are also being used to take important aerial photos.
It is still unclear how the serious accident, in which eleven people were seriously injured, came about. The vehicle involved in the accident has already been seized by the Klagenfurt public prosecutor’s office.
“It is being checked whether there was a technical defect or whether a driving error has been made,” says Klaus Innerwinkler of the National Police Service Carinthia. An alcohol test performed on the crash driver (35) was negative.
More races canceled
Drones are also being used to view the accident site from the air. “It is now part of everyday police life. The photos, taken by our specially trained drone pilots, provide important shots from good positions. In addition, using drones is significantly cheaper than using a helicopter to take photos,” says inner shopr.
Several witnesses were heard on Sunday. In addition, during the car race, it is checked whether the safety requirements have been met. “For an event like this, several things have to be approved. They are now being checked,” says Innerwinkler.
The other racing events, for which 46 participants from Austria and neighboring countries were originally registered, were cancelled.
