A 49-year-old is said to have used the internet in a criminal way to get money. The man from Graz is said to have sold mobile phones on an internet platform for a long time. The crux of the matter: the mobile phones purchased never reached the buyers. The man has been caught and is in custody.
After reporting internet fraud at the end of May 2022, police officers from Liezen started an investigation. A resident of Upper Styria described having bought an iPhone through an internet platform, but never received it.
That led the police to the trail of a 49-year-old Grazer. This reinforced the suspicion that the man had often committed internet fraud with false personal details and home addresses.
Damage of 11,700 euros
The investigation of financial transactions eventually revealed at least 19 such transactions. The man from Graz is suspected of defrauding victims in Vienna, Lower Austria, Upper Austria, Salzburg, Burgenland, Styria and Germany since at least April 2022 by selling iPhones on the internet. There was a financial loss of more than 11,700 euros.
Arrest in Grazie
Together with agents of the Graz police and on behalf of the public prosecutor in Graz, agents from Liezen arrested the 49-year-old in Graz on Thursday afternoon. When questioned, he confessed. The man from Graz, who had already been convicted of property crimes, has been transferred to Graz-Jakomini prison by order of the public prosecutor.
