Another step has been taken in the investigation of a German suspect in the Maddie McCann case. The suspect was subject to identification treatment, Hans Christian Wolters of the Braunschweig prosecutor’s office said Friday. Such a measure essentially takes pictures and records any special features such as scars, tattoos or moles, the spokesperson explains.
A few weeks ago, “Bild” reported on the 45-year-old’s approval for a similar investigation. The photos and information obtained must, among other things, be compared with descriptions of the perpetrators by witnesses, said public prosecutor Wolters. The focus is not only on the German in the case of the British girl Madeleine McCann, who disappeared in Portugal in 2007. Christian B. is also under investigation for other sex crimes, including two cases of abuse and three allegations of rape.
Further investigation needed for charges
The 45-year-old is currently serving a multi-year prison sentence in Oldenburg for the 2005 rape of an American woman in Praia da Luz, Portugal, where about a year and a half later, three-year-old Maddie disappeared from an apartment complex. In view of the alleged sex crimes, there is still a period in which the lawyer can speak out about the allegations, said public prosecutor Wolters. This may be followed by follow-up investigations before a decision can be made on an indictment.
