In the Vorderberger Klamm in the Hermagor district of Carinthia, a German holidaymaker (53) suffered a medical emergency on Friday during a canyoning tour. The ARA air rescue service went out to rescue the tourist under difficult circumstances.
Together with her husband and daughter, the holidaymaker from Bielefeld took part in the guided canyoning tour in the Vorderberger Klamm in St. Stefan im Gailtal on Friday around 10:00 AM. While boarding, the 53-year-old suddenly experienced an internal emergency, which prevented her from getting out of the canyon on her own. Because it was also not possible for the two canyoning guides to mobilize the weakened woman, they made an emergency call.
90 meters abseiling
“Floating over the narrow gorge, the rescuer had the winch operator descend to the group with a rope length of 90 meters. That was real precision work,” reports ARA director Thomas Jank. For example, the German could be recovered with a cable winch and flown to the LKH Villach.
Mountain rescue, water rescue, FF Vorderberg, FF St. Stefan im Gailtal, FF Matschiedl and the police helicopter Libelle were also deployed.
