There is great sympathy for the terrifying fate of the hunter Erich K. from Poppendorf. “Krone” readers across Austria were stunned by his death. As reported, the 58-year-old went hunting last Friday evening. According to the police report, the hunter became entangled in a swarm of hornets near a high stand on the edge of his residence in the municipality of Heiligenkreuz in the Lafnitz Valley.
Despite the rescue attempt, K., who had asked for help with his mobile phone, did not survive the attack. The patient died in the hospital in Güssing. Tragic detail: K. only passed the hunting exam two years ago. As friends said, Friday was his first time hunting alone.

A wasp nest has since been discovered in the raised area where K. was found on the ground. “There are two cable holes in the wood at the back, which serve as an entrance and exit for the insects. They buzz around wildly,” a local inspection said Sunday: “The hornets react immediately to jerky, rapid movements. No one dares to get too close to them.”
The municipality has the nest removed. This is only possible with the help of the fire brigade in protective suits.
