Mountain drama in Tyrol – photo shoot at the top ends with deadly crash

Date:

Tragic alpine accident Sunday in Tyrolean Ischgl: While a German (77) wanted to photograph his 63-year-old companion from Spain on the mountaintop, the man fell 60 meters down a partly vertical rock face. All help came too late for the climber.

The German and the Spaniard went on a mountain trip to the Greitspitze. After the duo reached the summit around noon, the woman stood next to the cross on the summit for her companion to take photos of her.

“The man then wanted to take a picture from further back and took a few steps back. The man clearly overlooked that he was already in the immediate vicinity of the abyss,” the researchers said.

As a result, the 77-year-old lost his balance and fell backwards over an approximately 60-meter high, partly vertical rock wall.

Mountain rescue brought the body into the valley
The man had no chance of survival. He sustained fatal injuries. A witness who was also at the summit made a distress call. The victim was eventually rescued by the police helicopter using a rope and then taken to the valley by the mountain rescue service.

The accident only became known on Tuesday after the victim’s relatives were located and informed.
